The Ica Stones: Thousands of andesite stones from Peru, some engraved with depictions of dinosaurs, advanced surgery, and space travel, were promoted as evidence of an ancient, technologically advanced civilization. Dr. Javier Cabrera, who amassed a large collection, claimed they recorded prehistoric knowledge. However, farmers admitted in the 1970s to carving and aging the stones using modern tools and goat stomach acid to create an antiqued surface. The images were inspired by comic books and magazines.
