OpenWorm: This open-source project aims to simulate the complete biological structure of the nematode worm *C. elegans*, including its 302-neuron connectome. By modeling every cell and synapse, it seeks to replicate the worm’s behavior in software. Successes include simulating basic movements. OpenWorm demonstrates whole nervous system emulation on a simple organism. While far from a human mind, it’s a proof-of-concept for digital brains. The project tackles challenges in data integration, simulation accuracy, and linking structure to function. It shows that simulating a simple mind is possible in principle. OpenWorm provides a framework and lessons for scaling up to more complex brains, representing a foundational step in the path toward mind uploading.
