Roald Amundsen was a pioneering Norwegian explorer of the polar regions and a key figure in the Heroic Age of Antarctic Exploration. He is best known for leading the first expedition to reach the South Pole in December 1911, famously beating Robert Falcon Scott. He was also the first to successfully navigate the Northwest Passage. A master of planning and adopting Inuit survival techniques, his achievements cemented his legacy as one of history's greatest explorers.
