Discrepancies in Crater Distribution

A noted lunar anomaly is the uneven distribution of impact craters between the Moon's near and far sides. The far side is heavily cratered, while the Earth-facing side has large, smooth maria. This asymmetry is largely explained by the near side having a thinner crust, which allowed ancient lava flows to resurface and erase older craters.
