Pluto's Orbit (Top 10 Solar System Anomalies)

Pluto's Orbit: Pluto has a highly elliptical orbit that is quite tilted relative to the plane of the ecliptic (the plane in which most planets orbit). This makes its orbit intersect with Neptune’s, although a stable orbital resonance prevents collisions.

Pluto's unusual orbit remains one of the solar system's most intriguing anomalies. Unlike the nearly circular orbits of planets, Pluto follows a highly elliptical path that crosses Neptune's orbit and tilts 17 degrees from the ecliptic plane. This extreme orbital inclination and eccentricity suggest different formation origins from the eight planets. Some astronomers believe gravitational interactions with Neptune or undiscovered objects may explain these irregularities. Pluto's unique orbital characteristics contributed to its reclassification as a dwarf planet and continue to raise questions about the early dynamics of our solar system's outer regions.
