The Minoans: This sophisticated Bronze Age civilization on Crete, centered at Knossos, boasted elaborate palaces with advanced plumbing. Likely destroyed by the catastrophic Thera eruption (c. 1600 BCE) and subsequent tsunamis, their culture significantly influenced the Mycenaeans. While not entirely lost, the scale of the disaster obliterated their societal structure and unique script (Linear A remains undeciphered), leaving much of their history and beliefs unknown.
