The Whaley House (San Diego, California) (1857–present) Once a courthouse, home, and theater, this Victorian-era house is built on a former gallows site. The Whaley family reported hearing footsteps, seeing shadow figures, and feeling invisible touches. Yuma, a former tenant, allegedly hanged himself in the courtyard, and his spirit is said to linger. Designated one of America’s most haunted homes, it has been investigated by TAPS (*Ghost Hunters*) and other teams who recorded EVPs and thermal fluctuations. Now a museum, it offers nightly tours and continues to draw researchers seeking evidence of persistent postmortem presence in domestic architecture.
