The French Revolution (1789–1799) was a turning point in world history, overthrowing the monarchy and reshaping France's political and social structure. Fueled by Enlightenment ideas, economic hardship, and widespread inequality, it began with the storming of the Bastille and led to the execution of King Louis XVI. The Revolution introduced radical reforms, including the Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen, but also descended into violence during the Reign of Terror. Although it ended with Napoleon's rise to power, its ideals of liberty, equality, and fraternity inspired democratic movements worldwide.
