Red Wolf (Canis rufus)

The Red Wolf is a critically endangered canine native to the southeastern United States, with fewer than 20 individuals estimated remaining in the wild. Once declared extinct in the wild, a cautious reintroduction program has faced setbacks from habitat loss, hybridization with coyotes, and human conflict. This elusive predator remains one of the rarest and most fragile mammalian species on Earth.
