Box Jellyfish (Chironex fleckeri): Found in Indo-Pacific waters, the box jellyfish is considered the most venomous marine animal. Its translucent body is nearly invisible, with up to 15 tentacles reaching 10 feet long, each lined with millions of nematocysts. A single sting injects toxins that attack the heart, nervous system, and skin cells, causing excruciating pain, cardiac arrest, or death within minutes. Survivors often suffer permanent scarring or nerve damage. There is an antivenom, but immediate treatment is critical. Despite its danger, the jellyfish plays a vital role in controlling fish populations and is studied for its complex eyes and navigation abilities.
