Indus Script

Top 10 Undeciphered Ancient Scripts

Indus Script: Used by the ancient Indus Valley Civilization (2600–1900 BCE) across modern-day Pakistan and northwest India, the Indus script appears on thousands of small stone seals, pottery, and tablets. It consists of short sequences of symbols—typically under 20 characters—suggesting an logo-syllabic system. Despite extensive statistical analysis, no bilingual text has been found, and the underlying language (possibly Dravidian or lost) remains unidentified. Its brevity and lack of long inscriptions complicate decipherment. This script, central to one of humanity’s earliest urban cultures, continues to baffle linguists and archaeologists.
