Phaistos Disc: Discovered in 1908 at the Minoan palace of Phaistos, this unique fired clay disc features spiral text on both sides, stamped with 45 distinct hieroglyph-like symbols. Dated to around 1700 BCE, it is the only known example of its kind. The symbols—depicting people, tools, and plants—are pressed into the clay using individual stamps, suggesting an early form of movable type. Despite numerous attempts, no translation has gained consensus. Its origin, purpose, and language remain unknown. The Phaistos Disc continues to captivate scholars and amateurs alike as one of archaeology’s most enigmatic artifacts.
