Serval: The serval is a medium-sized African wild cat known for its long legs, large ears, and spotted coat, adapted for hunting in tall grasslands. Highly agile and athletic, it can leap over six feet to catch birds. While the foundation for the Savannah cat breed, pure servals are rarely domesticated and extremely challenging pets. They require large, secure outdoor enclosures, a raw meat diet, and constant enrichment. Servals are unpredictable, vocal, and retain strong hunting instincts. Ownership is illegal in most U.S. states and many countries without special permits. Even when tamed, they pose safety risks. Their care is costly and complex.
