Sungazer Lizard (Giant Girdled Lizard): The Sungazer lizard, or giant girdled lizard (*Cordylus giganteus*), is a rare, armored reptile from South Africa, named for its habit of basking with its head tilted upward. It has a thick, spiky body and a distinctive appearance resembling a miniature dragon. Sungazers are slow-moving, diurnal, and require a secure terrarium with UVB lighting, a basking spot, and hiding caves. They eat insects and vegetation. While generally docile, they can deliver a strong bite if threatened. Very little is known about their long-term care, and they are seldom bred in captivity, raising conservation concerns. Ownership is rare and often restricted. Their unique look and behavior attract collectors, but their specialized needs and ethical implications make them suitable only for expert herpetologists.
