The Cardiff Giant Photo (1869) Images of the buried Cardiff Giant—a ten-foot gypsum figure unearthed in New York—were widely circulated as proof of biblical giants. The photos showed laborers excavating the stone man embedded in soil which appeared ancient. These images helped fuel public fascination and religious interpretation. However it was later revealed as a hoax carved by George Hull and aged artificially. The photographs though technically authentic captured a deliberate forgery. Their impact demonstrated how visual media could amplify deception and shape mass belief before scientific verification.
