The Ghost of Tsarskoye Selo (1909) A photograph of Russian imperial children playing in the garden at Tsarskoye Selo reportedly shows a faint figure in period dress watching from a window. After the Romanovs were executed some believed the image captured the ghost of murdered servant Anna Demidova or even Tsarina Alexandra. The photo was analyzed by Soviet researchers in the 1970s who found no evidence of tampering. Enhanced scans reveal human-like contours and eye sockets within the shadowed area. Though lighting conditions may explain the effect believers see it as a tragic echo of the dynasty’s fall.
