Haboobs

Haboobs are intense dust storms characterized by massive walls of sand and dust that can reach heights of over 3,000 feet. Typically occurring in arid regions like the Sahara, Arabian Peninsula, and the southwestern U.S., these storms are triggered by strong downdrafts from thunderstorms. Moving at speeds up to 60 mph, haboobs reduce visibility to near zero, posing hazards to transportation and health. Though short-lived, they can cause significant damage and respiratory problems. Their dramatic appearance and sudden onset make them one of nature's most striking weather phenomena.
