Polar Bear (Ursus maritimus): The largest land carnivore the polar bear reigns over the Arctic with a fearsome combination of size strength and predatory instinct. Weighing up to 1500 pounds males are equipped with powerful limbs sharp claws and a bite force exceeding 1200 psi. They rely on sea ice to hunt seals their primary prey using stealth and explosive power to break through breathing holes. Unlike most bears they view humans as potential prey especially when undernourished due to climate change. Attacks on humans are rare but often fatal. Their thick fur and fat insulate them in extreme cold while their excellent swimming ability allows them to cover vast distances. As apex predators they have no natural enemies.
