Nile Crocodile (Crocodylus niloticus): One of the most aggressive crocodilians the Nile crocodile inhabits rivers lakes and marshes across sub-Saharan Africa. Growing up to 16 feet and weighing over 1650 pounds it is an opportunistic apex predator. It ambushes prey from the water using a death roll to dismember animals as large as wildebeest and zebra. Highly territorial and intelligent it exhibits complex hunting strategies and parental care. Its armored skin powerful tail and devastating bite make it nearly invulnerable in its habitat. Despite historical declines due to hunting it remains a dominant force in African aquatic ecosystems.
