Tasmanian Devil (Sarcophilus harrisii): Small in size but immense in ferocity the Tasmanian devil is a carnivorous marsupial native to Tasmania. Weighing up to 26 pounds it has the strongest bite force relative to body size of any mammal capable of crushing bones. Nocturnal and solitary they scavenge and hunt small animals emitting blood-curdling screams during fights. They are extremely aggressive at feeding sites often biting rivals and even their own kind. Their reputation stems from their voracious appetite and fierce temperament. Though not dangerous to humans their ferocity helps control carrion and small pest populations. Conservation efforts are ongoing due to a contagious facial tumor disease threatening extinction.
