Green Hydrogen Production (via Electrolysis): Green hydrogen is produced by splitting water into hydrogen and oxygen using electricity from renewable sources in a process called electrolysis. Unlike gray or blue hydrogen, it emits no carbon dioxide, making it a clean fuel for hard-to-decarbonize sectors like heavy industry, long-haul transport, and chemical manufacturing. When used in fuel cells, it emits only water vapor. Though currently expensive and energy-intensive, falling renewable costs and scaling electrolyzer technology are improving viability. Green hydrogen can also store excess renewable energy and be converted back to electricity. International projects are emerging worldwide. As a versatile, zero-emission energy carrier, green hydrogen is poised to play a critical role in achieving net-zero emissions and transforming global energy systems.
